We’ve stayed at 50+ Hyatt hotels over the past few years, from family-friendly Hyatt Regency resorts to bucket-list Park Hyatt stays. After testing the program again and again with real bookings and award stays one thing is clear: World of Hyatt is our favorite hotel loyalty program.
And not just because of points, but because of the hidden perks most travelers don’t even realize they have.
If you’re collecting Hyatt points, chasing Hyatt elite status, or trying to earn free hotel nights, these are the benefits that make the biggest difference.

You earn a Hyatt Free Night Certificate just by staying at a Hyatt hotel
Hyatt rewards you based on how many qualifying nights you stay in a calendar year. They are called Milestone Rewards, and they are separate from elite status levels.
| Nights per year | Reward |
|---|---|
| 30 qualifying nights | Category 1–4 Free Night Award |
| 60 qualifying nights | Category 1–7 Free Night Award |
How to earn Hyatt Qualifying Nights:
- Paid stays: Nights paid with cash (not third-party bookings, though).
- Award stays: Nights redeemed with points or free night awards.
- Credit Card spending: Earn 5 qualifying nights for every $10,000 spent on the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, or 2 nights per $5,000 on the personal card.
Over the years, we’ve used a Hyatt Category 1–4 Free Night Certificate at hotels charging $300–$400 per night. You can read more about our stay at SCHLOSS Roxburghe in Scotland here.
Extra Free Night most people miss: Hyatt Brand Explorer
Stay at 5 different Hyatt brands (like Hyatt Place, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, etc.) and you earn another Category 1–4 Free Night Award.
Hyatt promotions can earn you enough Points for another night
Hyatt runs bonus points promotions multiple times a year, and they are often very generous. Just remember that you must register before your stay. Here are the current Hyatt Bonus Journes in 2026.
- Earn 3,000 bonus points every 3 eligible nights (up to 21,000 points)
- Extra 1,000 points every 3 nights at Hyatt Place & select brands (up to 7,000 more)

Hyatt House & Hyatt Studios Promo
- Earn 5,000 bonus points per qualifying stay of 5+ nights
- Up to 50,000 bonus points
- Valid through Dec 31, 2026

That means a longer stay can generate points toward another free night. This is why it’s smart to always check Hyatt’s promotions page before booking.
The World of Hyatt Credit Card gives you Free Nights every year
The World of Hyatt Credit Card includes:
- 1 Category 1–4 Free Night Award every card anniversary
- A second Category 1–4 Free Night Award after $15,000 spend
So even without many hotel stays, you can get one or two Hyatt free nights every year. Plus, the Free Night Award easily offsets the $95 annual fee.
Use Hyatt’s Points Calendar to book off-peak nights
One of the biggest advantages of the World of Hyatt award chart is that hotel pricing changes depending on demand. Hyatt does not charge the same number of points every night.
Each hotel night falls into one of three pricing levels:
- Off-Peak – lowest points price
- Standard – normal price
- Peak – highest price
If your travel dates are flexible, you can choose off-peak nights and save a large number of points.
What Is a Hyatt Hotel Category?
Every Hyatt hotel is assigned a category from 1 to 8. The category tells you how many points an award night costs.
Lower category = fewer points
Higher category = more points
| Category | Typical Hotels | Off-Peak | Standard | Peak |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Category 1 | Hyatt Place, Hyatt House (smaller cities) | 3,500 | 5,000 | 6,500 |
| Category 4 | Popular city hotels & resorts | 12,000 | 15,000 | 18,000 |
| Category 5 | Upscale Hyatts, Andaz, Grand Hyatt | 17,000 | 20,000 | 23,000 |
| Category 8 | Luxury Park Hyatt & top resorts | 35,000 | 40,000 | 45,000 |
Let’s say you want to stay 5 nights at a Category 5 hotel:
- Off-peak: 17,000 × 5 = 85,000 points
- Standard: 20,000 × 5 = 100,000 points
- Peak: 23,000 × 5 = 115,000 points

Choosing off-peak instead of peak saves 30,000 points, which is enough for another night at a Category 7 hotel.
Where to find the Hyatt Points Calendar
Hyatt doesn’t have a separate “calendar page.” Instead, you see pricing directly when searching:
- Go to Hyatt.com
- Explore Hotels and Resorts
- Search for a destination or specific hotel
- See the “Points Calendar” under each property and click on that

Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award lets you confirm a Suite in advance
This is one of the most valuable benefits in the World of Hyatt program, especially for families. Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards come from Milestone Rewards:
- 50 qualifying nights → 2 Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards
- 60 qualifying nights → 2 more Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards
That means you can earn up to 4 confirmed suite upgrades per year.
Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards allow World of Hyatt members to confirm a suite upgrade at booking instead of waiting for a space-available upgrade at check-in.
With a Suite Upgrade Award, you can:
- Book a standard room rate using cash, points, or Points + Cash
- Apply a Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award to your reservation
- Confirm a standard suite in advance at the time of booking
- Upgrade a stay for up to 7 consecutive nights
Unlike complimentary elite upgrades, these are confirmed suite upgrades, meaning your suite is secured before arrival as long as a standard suite is available when you book.
How far in advance can you apply a Hyatt SUA? You can apply a Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award up to 13 months in advance, as long as:
- A standard suite is available for your dates
- You are booking a standard room rate (cash, points, or Points + Cash)
Book your Hyatt stay with Points+Cash
One of the most useful features in the World of Hyatt loyalty program is the ability to book Points + Cash stays. This option lets you combine Hyatt points and money to reserve a hotel night, making higher-category hotels more accessible.
If you’re short on points or want to save your balance for future trips, Hyatt Points + Cash awards can be a smart strategy.
Booking with Hyatt Points + Cash offers several advantages:
✔ Uses fewer Hyatt points than a full award night
✔ Helps stretch your points for longer trips
✔ Counts as a qualifying night toward elite status
✔ Counts toward Milestone Rewards
✔ Allows you to stay at higher-category Hyatt hotels without using a large points balance
Get Hyatt Guest of Honor Awards: get Globalist benefits without Globalist status
One of the most powerful and underrated perks in the World of Hyatt loyalty program is the Guest of Honor Award. This benefit allows you to enjoy Hyatt Globalist perks, even if you haven’t stayed 60 nights to earn Globalist status.
That means you can experience top-tier Hyatt elite benefits without being a Globalist member.
How to earn a Hyatt Guest of Honor Award
You receive a Hyatt Guest of Honor Award through Milestone Rewards:
- 40 qualifying nights OR 65,000 base points → Earn Guest of Honor Awards
- 60 qualifying nights → Earn additional Guest of Honor Awards
- You can be gifted a GOH Award by another World of Hyatt member
What Globalist Benefits You Get
When a Guest of Honor Award is applied to a reservation, the stay receives Globalist-level benefits for up to 7 consecutive nights, including:
✔ Free breakfast for up to 2 adults and 2 kids
✔ Club lounge access (where available)
✔ Room upgrades up to the best available standard room (sometimes suites)
✔ 4 pm late checkout (when available)
✔ Waived resort fees on eligible stays
These benefits apply on:
- Award stays booked with points
- Eligible paid stays
Combine or transfer Hyatt Points between family members
One of the most useful but lesser-known features of the World of Hyatt loyalty program is that members can transfer Hyatt points to another member. This makes it much easier for families to book award stays faster.
How Hyatt Points Transfer Works
Hyatt allows you to move points from one World of Hyatt account to another, as long as the points are being used for an award booking.
You can transfer points to: a spouse, a family member, another traveler in your group, and there is no fee to transfer Hyatt points.
How to Transfer Hyatt Points (Step-by-Step)
Hyatt does not allow online transfers inside your account. Instead, you must complete a form.
1. Go to Hyatt’s website and search for the “World of Hyatt Points Combining Request Form.”
2. Download the form
Fill out:
Sender’s name and World of Hyatt number
Recipient’s name and World of Hyatt number
Number of points to transfer
Both members must sign the form
Email the completed form to Hyatt customer service (address listed on the form)
How Long Does a Hyatt Points Transfer Take?
- Transfers usually process in 2–7 business days.
- It’s best to submit the form before the award space disappears.
- Because of the processing time, this works best when you already know which hotel and dates you want
Important Rules to Know
- Transfers must be for the purpose of booking an award
- Points transfers are typically limited to one transaction every 30 days per account
- Once transferred, points cannot be reversed
Bottom line
The World of Hyatt loyalty program offers some of the most valuable hotel rewards available, especially if you understand the benefits many members overlook. From free night certificates and Hyatt bonus promotions to suite upgrade awards, Guest of Honor stays, off-peak award pricing, Points + Cash bookings, and points transfers, these perks can save hundreds of dollars per trip.
If you want free Hyatt nights, confirmed upgrades, and real elite-style benefits, Hyatt remains one of the strongest hotel loyalty programs for families and frequent travelers.
