In this SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel review, I’ll share how we booked our stay on Hyatt points, what the rooms are like, dining options, amenities, and what to do nearby with kids.
How to book SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel on points
One of the best things about SCHLOSS Roxburghe is that you can book it with World of Hyatt points. It’s a Category 4 Hyatt hotel, which means:

Cash rates at SCHLOSS Roxburghe often run £400+ per night, so using points or free night certificates gives great value.

Check in at SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel
The SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel was our first stop in Scotland on our road trip from London to the Isle of Skye. We drove up from York and arrived in the afternoon. The hotel sits on a 300-acre estate in the Scottish Borders, surrounded by fields and woodland, so having a car here is a must.
Check-in was smooth and welcoming. The staff handed us a map of the grounds, explained the amenities and dining options.
We had booked two standard rooms in the Estate House and hoped to get an upgrade at check-in since it was only for one night. So we wondered if anything was available in the historic Manor House (the “castle” part of the hotel), but unfortunately, nothing was open during our stay.
To the girls’ delight, they were given little Highland cow plushies, such a thoughtful touch. I also hadn’t realized SCHLOSS Roxburghe was the kind of hotel where the check-in clerk personally walks you to your room, which immediately set the tone for a more elevated stay.

1 King Bed Estate room at SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel
SCHLOSS Roxburghe offers three styles of accommodation:
- Historic Manor House rooms: traditional Scottish interiors, four-poster beds, fireplaces, and high ceilings.
- Estate House rooms: modern design with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the golf course or parkland. Heated floors in the bathrooms, rain showers, and in some suites, freestanding tubs.
- Cottages: ideal for families. These come with kitchens, more space, and flexible layouts.

We had booked two identical standard rooms in the Estate House, and the best part was that they came with a connecting door. This setup was ideal for our family, it gave us extra space and two bathrooms!

The rooms themselves were modern and spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows that filled the space with natural light. Design-wise, they had clean lines and subtle Scottish touches without feeling overly themed.
The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were sleek with walk-in showers, and everything felt fresh and new.

A detail the kids especially loved: the fridge had complimentary bottles of milk and cookies waiting for us.

Since I had already told the girls we might be staying in the castle part of the hotel, I pulled open the little curtain drapes on the bed so they’d still get that “princess” feeling.

Amenities at SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel
The spa and wellness area at SCHLOSS Roxburghe is one of the hotel’s big draws, and it really does feel special. The heated outdoor pool was a hit with our girls, though we quickly learned that kids are only allowed during a two-hour window in the morning, from 8 am to 10 am.

That meant we had to plan an earlier breakfast than usual so the kids could swim before the cutoff. It wasn’t the most relaxing timing, but the pool itself made up for it. The water was perfectly warm, and starting the day with a swim on a crisp Scottish morning was actually pretty memorable.
Right next to the pool are the outdoor saunas, which felt like such a treat. Sitting in the heat while looking out over the grounds was the kind of small luxury that sets this property apart.

Beyond the spa, the estate has plenty more to offer, from the gym to the championship golf course and even fishing on the grounds.
Kids Club at SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel
SCHLOSS Roxburghe has a dedicated Kids’ Club, designed to give younger guests their own space for supervised play and activities. However, beginning September 1, 2025, the Kids’ Club will be temporarily closed, with plans to reopen in the future.

While we visited before the closure, we didn’t get a chance to try it out anyway, our schedule was too packed. Instead, we spent time at the playground right next to the Kids’ Club, and it turned out to be a hit with our girls. The little one especially loved the slide and swing, while the open space gave both kids room to run around after a day of driving.

Bottom line
Our stay at SCHLOSS Roxburghe in Scotland blended countryside charm with thoughtful luxury, making it a memorable first stop on our Scotland road trip. The staff were warm and welcoming, the rooms worked perfectly for our family with connecting doors (and little touches like cookies, milk, and even plush Highland cows for the kids).
There were a couple of drawbacks: mainly the restricted pool hours for kids, which meant early mornings if we wanted to swim, and the fact that rooms in the castle itself weren’t available during our dates.
Nonetheless, between the great dining options, playground, and the vast grounds to walk around there was more than enough to enjoy.
If you’re planning a trip to the Scottish Borders, this SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel review sums it up well: it’s a property that works beautifully for families who want both luxury and space, while still feeling authentic to its setting.
