We recently spent three nights here with our kids, and the location couldn’t have been better. Thompson Madrid in Spain is a centrally located boutique hotel that can be booked with Hyatt points. It’s sophisticated, modern, and surprisingly perfect for families.

How to book Thompson Madrid on points
Thompson Madrid is a Category 6 Hyatt hotel, which means it can be booked on points, and the Standard Rooms at Thompson Madrid are 21,000–25,000 Hyatt points per night.
For our stay as a family of 4, we booked two standard rooms at Thompson Madrid (per their policy, each room sleeps 2) for 25,000 points per night each.

Now, a week before check-in, we asked the hotel if they could place the rooms near each other or provide a connecting option. They told us that, unfortunately, there were no connecting rooms available at Thomson Madrid.
Check in at Thompson Madrid: boutique feel, big welcome
Thomson Madrid is located about 25 minutes from Madrid-Barajas Airport, and the ride into the city is smooth. The hotel is tucked just off the Gran Vía, Madrid’s main shopping and entertainment avenue. The entrance is discreet, almost quiet, until you step inside.
Note that there was an ongoing construction in that little plaza right in front of the entrance.
The lobby has a modern vibe with warm leather tones, black marble, and curated art pieces. It feels more like a boutique gallery than a chain hotel, but the welcome was warm.
Now, at check-in, the front desk let us know we’d been upgraded to what they call a 2-Bedroom Family Suite, a Premium Suite connected to the Standard Room.
In this case, it was a King Suite City View connected to a Twin Beds City View via a private corridor and separate entrance.
The staff handed us keys and explained Thompson Madrid Globalist benefits – daily complimentary breakfast for the 4 of us, late checkout, etc..
At Thompson Madrid, we were also offered complimentary welcome drinks and treats for everyone from the Lobby Bar, including a Spanish omelet that soon became our kids’ favorite.
Since the girls were tired from traveling, I asked if I could take this downstairs, and they provided me with a tray.
The Room: 2-Bedroom Family Suite at Thompson Madrid
This over 80 sqm 2-Bedroom Family Suite was exactly what we needed after long flights and adjusting to the time change. Technically, it’s two rooms connected by a private hallway with a door to the main corridor. It felt like a spacious Madrid apartment with daily cleaning and Globalist perks. Perfect.

- Great for putting the kids to bed early while we stayed up in the suite
Complimentary welcome treats at Thompson Madrid
We also received additional complimentary welcome treats in the room: a handwritten welcome note, famous Spanish purple candies, kids’ activity books with things to do in Madrid, and a complimentary small bottle of olive oil from Cordoba!
We appreciated the espresso machines, bottled water replenished daily, and thoughtful touches like extra slippers and for the kids. There was also a small minibar with local snacks (not complimentary).
Dining options at Thompson Madrid
Breakfast at Thompson Madrid, Mendo Restaurant
As Globalists, we received a complimentary breakfast for our family at Mendo restaurant, located just off the lobby. Honestly, it was one of the best Globalist breakfasts we’ve had in Europe.
Each morning, we were seated quickly and offered drinks right away. The breakfast at Thompson Madrid was Spanish breakfast style, where you were first offered a starter: fruits, local cheeses, jamón ibérico, coffee, and also had a choice of 1 entree and a dessert (fresh churros and pastries).
You could order eggs any style, avocado toast, or pancakes off the menu. The coffee was strong and delicious, and the whole experience felt elevated yet relaxed. And yes, we did have churros in chocolate as a dessert for breakfast!
Lobby Bar at Thompson Madrid
Thompson Madrid has a chic bar located right in the lobby, with plush seating and a relaxed, stylish vibe. It’s a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring the city.
We stopped by for drinks one evening and were served complimentary potato chips (crispy and addictive!) alongside our cocktails. Just a heads-up, the drinks are on the pricier side.
Rooftop Pool Bar at Thompson Madrid
The rooftop bar at Thompson Madrid was closed for the season during our stay in early April, but we went up to take a peek, and the views are stunning. In summer, this would be the perfect place for sunset drinks or a light dinner.
Amenities at Thompson Madrid
Despite its boutique feel, Thompson Madrid packs in a lot of amenities:
- Rooftop pool (seasonal)
- Fitness center with Peloton bikes and lots of natural light
- Concierge and 24-hour front desk
- Daily housekeeping with turndown on request
- High-speed Wi-Fi, espresso machines, USB charging ports in rooms
There is no on-site spa at Thompson Madrid. The hotel also feels very secure; access to guest floors requires a key card, and there are staff present throughout the lobby area.
Is Thompson Madrid family-friendly?
There’s no official kids’ club, and it’s not advertised as a family hotel. But it worked surprisingly well for us. The staff went out of their way to make our kids feel welcome, and the 2-bedroom setup made bedtime routines easy.
We also loved being able to head back for breaks without needing a cab. Thompson Madrid is walkable to parks, plazas, and pedestrian streets that are stroller-friendly.
