Last Christmas, we spent a week in Mexico, and this time, we explored the little town of Zihuatanejo. For our stay, we picked one of the Hyatt hotels from the Thompson collection – Thompson Zihuatanejo.

Located in Playa La Ropa along the Pacific coastline, this hotel combines mid-century design and traditional Mexican style. Known for its stunning beachfront location and upscale amenities, Thompson Zihuatanejo was on our shortlist for months, and we were excited to finally stay there. Thompson Chicago hotel review: Sophisticated downtown stay near the Magnificent Mile

We recently spent a few weeks in Chicago and went with two properties from the Hyatt chain for our stay. While Chicago has more than 20 Hyatt properties, we narrowed it down to Park Hyatt Chicago and Thompson Chicago, splitting our stay between them.

So far, this has been our second hotel stay at the property from the Thompson collection (you can read about our stay in Mexico at The Cape, a Thompson hotel here), and we were eager to check this Thompson out.

Opened in 2013, Thompson Chicago offers 247 rooms and suites to choose from and is conveniently located in Downtown Chicago, near the Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan. Let’s take a closer look at what this hotel has to offer.

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel Review

There is nothing like a quick trip to the tropical seaside with gorgeous views to soak up the sun, swim in the warm ocean waters, enjoy some good food, recharge your energy, and simply have a good time.

Cabo San Lucas is the closest Mexican resort destination to the San Francisco International Airport, but somehow we had never been there before. We did not want to spend hours on a plane, and the direct SFO-SJD flight was only 2.5 hours to the beautiful Sea of Cortez, so The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, seemed like a perfect choice for a short vacation.

The Cape from the Thompson brand, owned by Hyatt, is a Category 6 five-star luxury beachfront retreat situated at the junction of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This hotel is relatively new and was built in 2015, with a rather compact layout consisting of 161 rooms, suites, and villas. The hotel features an on-site spa, a beautiful infinity pool with a swim-up bar, and oceanfront accommodations.
