A stylish Hyatt in a quiet Munich neighborhood: Andaz Munich Review

Last December, we visited Munich for the first time and stayed at Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor, a Hyatt hotel. In this Andaz Munich review, I’m sharing details from our four-night stay. We booked the hotel on points, received a Junior Suite upgrade on arrival, and I’ll cover what to expect from the rooms, dining, and spa.

How to book Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor on points

Now, Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is a Hyatt property, which means you can book your stay by redeeming Hyatt Points. It is a Category 5 Hyatt property and costs around 17k-23k per night, depending on the nightly rate.

For our 4-night stay, we transferred Chase Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio and paid 17,000 Hyatt points per night, instead of roughly €350 per night in cash. Importantly, there are no taxes or fees on hotel bookings when redeeming Hyatt Points.

Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite, which immediately increased the value of this redemption.

Where is Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor

To start, Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is located in Schwabing (about 25 minutes away from the Munich International Airport), not in Munich’s historic center.

Still, public transportation is nearby, and getting around the city was easy. After busy sightseeing days, coming back to a calmer neighborhood felt like a plus rather than a downside.

Check-In at Andaz Munich

When we arrived at Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor in the evening, we were greeted by the festive lobby with a big Christmas tree. We were checked in by the front desk manager, Andrea, who was very helpful. He explained the hotel amenities, including the spa and dining.

I even asked for recommendations for exploring Munich and nearby day trips, and Andrea shared his favorite spots and showed them on a map.

He confirmed that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite (thanks to our Globalist status) and walked us to the room, showing us how everything worked, including the thermostat and minibar (which was stocked with complimentary soda, water, and snacks).

Junior Suite at Andaz Munich

Now, our Junior Suite at Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor measured 753 square feet, which felt very spacious for a city hotel in Munich. Andaz Munich opened in 2019, and the room felt new, modern, and well-maintained.

The suite included a king bed, a large desk, a separate living room area, and a spacious bathroom.

Additionally, the bathroom featured both a large soaking bathtub and a rain shower, which was especially nice after long days of walking around the city.

For families, the Junior Suite allows up to one crib and up to one rollaway bed upon request. This time, we travelled without the girls, but it’s good to keep this in mind.

In addition, the room included robes and slippers, and the minibar was complimentary. It had water, local Coke, and lemonade, as well as potato chips, and everything was replenished daily.

Finally, this Junior Suite is considered a standard suite, along with the Andaz Suite, meaning it is eligible for a Hyatt Suite Upgrade.

Dining options at Andaz Munich

Andaz Lounge Bar

The Andaz Lounge Bar is located on the ground floor near the lobby and works well for a casual meal or drinks. The menu focuses on straightforward, comfort-style food. During our stay, we had dinner there and ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich. Both were solid and convenient.

During our stay, breakfast was consistent each morning and never felt chaotic or overcrowded. Breakfast was complimentary with Hyatt Globalist status, which we used throughout our four-night stay.

M’Uniqo Rooftop Bar & Terrace

We also had dinner at M’Uniqo Rooftop Bar & Terrace, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar. It’s Munich’s highest rooftop bar, offering good food, well-made drinks, and city views. We tried baked oysters and grilled sardines, both were very good.

Spa and Pool at Andaz Munich

The spa at Andaz Munich covers around 2,000 sq. m. (it’s one of the largest in Munich) and is located on the fifth and sixth floors, with six treatment rooms offering face, beauty, and massage treatments.

Note that while the saunas and steam baths are open year-round, they are for adults only (kids 13–17 allowed when accompanied). However, children 0–12 may use the pool from 10 am to 5 pm under supervision.

Additionally, the spa area also has a Sunset Lounge with smoothies, shakes, healthy bowls, and other snacks.

Bottom line

Overall, Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is a modern, design-forward Hyatt hotel in a quieter part of Munich, well connected to the city. Booking four nights on points gave us excellent value, and we were upgraded to a Junior Suite on arrival.

The rooms are spacious, the breakfast buffet is varied and included with Globalist status, dining options cover casual to rooftop meals, and the spa has an indoor pool and saunas. For anyone visiting Munich, whether on points or cash, Andaz Munich offers comfort, convenience, and full amenities in a modern setting.
