We spent one night at the Hilton Hotel Tahiti during our trip to French Polynesia with kids, and if you’re flying from the U.S., you’ll probably need to do the same.
Here’s the thing: you can’t fly straight to Bora Bora or Moorea from the U.S. You’ll land first in Tahiti, at Faaʻa International Airport in Papeete, and depending on your arrival time, you may need to spend the night before continuing to the islands.
And in this Hilton Tahiti review, I’ll share exactly how it worked for us as a family of four, from check-in to the room, dining, and family-friendly amenities.

How to get to Hilton Tahiti from the airport
We grabbed a taxi to the Hilton Hotel Tahiti right outside Faaʻa International Airport in Papeete.
It cost about $20 for a ~10-minute ride, and it was cash only. You can easily withdraw cash at the ATM inside the airport. As always, we used our Schwab debit card for no ATM fees on international withdrawals.
Some drivers also accept U.S. dollars, which makes things even easier after a long flight.
We flew from San Francisco to Papeete, landed in the evening, and by then all flights to Bora Bora and ferries to Moorea had stopped for the day.

Check-in experience
Check-in at Hilton Tahiti was quick and easy. We had already seen in the Hilton app that we’d been upgraded to an Ocean View room, so that was a nice surprise before we even arrived.

The Room: 2 Queen Bed Ocean View Room at Hilton Tahiti
We stayed in a 2 Queen Bed Ocean View Room, and for a one-night stop in Tahiti, this setup worked really well for our family.

The room is about 409 sq. ft., with a seating area and a private balcony with ocean views, and it felt spacious enough for all of us.
- Two queen beds (not doubles)
- Enough space for luggage + kids
- No need to book a second room
Our girls shared one bed, and the hotel had no issue with all four of us staying in one room, which made this an easy and cost-effective option.
We were also upgraded to the ocean view, which made it even better. Waking up and seeing the water right away just made it feel like the trip had officially started.
Overall, this didn’t feel like a basic airport hotel room, it felt like a comfortable, family-friendly start to our time in Tahiti.
Dining Options at Hilton Tahiti
The hotel has several restaurants, but for a one-night stay, we only had breakfast.
With Hilton Honors Gold status, breakfast at Hilton Tahiti was:
- Free for both adults
- About $25 for our 11-year-old (half price)
- Free for our younger child
For a family of four in Tahiti, that’s easily $100+ in savings in one morning, which adds up quickly.

The breakfast is served buffet-style, and while it’s not over-the-top luxury, it had everything we needed:
- Fresh tropical fruit
- Pastries and breads
- Hot dishes
- Coffee and juices

We sat outside on the patio right by the water, and the kids were watching fish while eating, and that definitely made their morning!
