We recently flew Air Tahiti Nui business class from Papeete (PPT) to Los Angeles (LAX) after our amazing trip to French Polynesia. This Air Tahiti Nui Business Class Review shares how the overnight flight worked for our family of four.
This route between Tahiti and the U.S. West Coast is one of the most popular ways to return from French Polynesia, and we were curious to see how it compared to other long-haul flights. If you’re looking for what to expect on the Air Tahiti Nui PPT–LAX business class flight, here’s our full experience.

How to book Air Tahiti Nui Business Class on points
We reserved four one-way tickets in Air Tahiti Nui business class for our PPT → LAX → SFO routing using Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (Atmos) miles.
Thus, we used 60,000 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles per person, plus $79 in taxes and fees each. Cash fares on this route with Air Tahiti Nui typically start around $3,000 per ticket one way, so redeeming miles offered exceptional value.
You can earn Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (Atmos) points by: opening an Alaska or Hawaiian credit card and flying; spending on those cards; transferring points from Bilt Rewards or Marriott Bonvoy; using the Atmos Rewards Shopping program; or purchasing Atmos points.
Keep in mind that the previous American Express Membership Rewards → Hawaiian Airlines → Alaska transfer options have ended.
When we first searched our flights from Tahiti, only two business class and two premium economy seats were available (40k and 60k miles). We booked those right away, and a few weeks later, two additional business class seats opened up. We upgraded by adding 20,000 miles per person so that all four of us could fly together in business class.
If you’re planning to book Air Tahiti Nui with Alaska Miles, it’s worth checking availability regularly, seats often reappear.
Note that the 60,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles + $79 per person we paid covered both the PPT → LAX business class flight and the LAX → SFO economy segment.
Layover timing: When booking the award, the layover (PPT → LAX → SFO) was about 3 hours, but it was later changed to ~7 hours. This extended wait on the ground is a downside with children, not the flight itself, but the transit time. Worth checking your connection carefully.
Lounge access at Papeete International Airport (PPT)
Before our Air Tahiti Nui business class flight from Papeete to Los Angeles, we spent some time at the Air Tahiti Nui Lounge inside Faa’a International Airport (PPT). Business class passengers automatically receive lounge access, which makes a big difference before an overnight departure.

The lounge itself is small but comfortable, with enough space to unwind before boarding. The food spread included sandwiches with smoked salmon and prosciutto, a few hot dishes, and even cup noodles, which our girls happily picked. There was also a good selection of desserts, along with wine, juice, and coffee.
Since our flight left around 9:30 p.m., we chose to have dinner here instead of onboard. It was a relaxing way to end our stay in French Polynesia before the Air Tahiti Nui PPT–LAX flight home.
Moreover, the Air Tahiti Nui Lounge at Papeete (PPT) even provides shower access, which is a great perk for families or anyone traveling on an overnight flight.

Air Tahiti Nui Business Class Cabin Layout
The Air Tahiti Nui Business Class cabin uses a 2-2-2 configuration (six abreast) in the lie-flat seats.
For our PPT → LAX business class flight, we booked two middle seats in one row and two window seats in another. Specifically, row 4 window seats and row 5 middle seats.
This setup gave each adult direct aisle access while keeping the kids nearby, which worked perfectly for an overnight flight.

One note: While the 2-2-2 layout worked well for our family setup, if you’re travelling solo, you’ll want to pick seats carefully. Window seats may require stepping over another passenger to access the aisle. It’s not the most private layout compared to 1-2-1.

In-flight service & amenities at Air Tahiti Nui Business Class
- Welcome drink: On boarding, business class passengers are offered champagne or juice. We went with juice for the kids.
- Amenity kit: Each passenger got a kit with hand & face cream, lip balm (smelt amazing), socks, sleeping mask. The kit’s quality stood out.

Flying Air Tahiti Nui business class means sleeping comfortably on lie-flat seats. After takeoff, our kids quickly drifted off and slept through the overnight PPT → LAX flight. The seats are fully flat at 78″/198 cm, providing plenty of space to stretch out.
The pillows and bedding in Air Tahiti Nui business class are large and plush, far superior to the “tiny” pillows you sometimes see on other airlines, making it easy for both kids and adults to get restful sleep on this route.

Overall, the cabin looked fresh, well-maintained, the entertainment screens were large, amenities were modern.

Dining on Air Tahiti Nui Business Class
On our Air Tahiti Nui business class flight from PPT to LAX, the crew offered a hot light meal for dinner followed by full breakfast service before landing. Since it was an overnight flight, we chose to skip both and focus on sleeping instead.

Even though we didn’t try the meals, families traveling overnight may appreciate that business class provides a complete dinner and breakfast service.

Air Tahiti Nui Business Class for family & kids
- Departure late at night (~9:30 p.m.) aligned with kids’ bedtime, so instead of fighting sleep, we leveraged the overnight to help them settle.
- Lie-flat seats + comfortable pillows meant the kids were asleep quickly, stayed asleep, and the adults got decent rest.
- Adult seats with direct aisle access let us respond quickly if the child needed help (bathroom, drink) without disturbing the other sleeper.
- Skipping onboard dining meant less fuss, fewer decisions, less risk of cranky hungry kids mid-flight.
- The result: We arrived at LAX (then SFO) in far better shape than we might have if we had booked economy.
Bottom line
Our Air Tahiti Nui Business Class Review shows that this overnight flight from Papeete (PPT) to Los Angeles (LAX)is a comfortable and practical way for families to travel from Tahiti to the U.S. West Coast. With lie-flat seats, plush pillows, and full-service dining, it made the red-eye much easier for our kids to sleep through the night.
Booking with Alaska Mileage Plan (60k miles + $79 per person) provided excellent value compared to the cash price of around $3,000 per ticket, even with the extended layover in Los Angeles.
If you’re traveling with kids or looking to redeem points for a restful overnight flight from Tahiti, flying Air Tahiti Nui business class is highly recommended.
