This luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Cartagena, Colombia, is known for its stunning rooftop, central location, and warm, personalized service. During our recent stay, we loved how Movich combined modern comfort with colonial charm. From lazy mornings with fresh Colombian coffee to golden-hour sunsets by the rooftop pool, Movich delivered an unforgettable experience. Here’s our full review of Movich Hotel Cartagena — what to expect, what we loved, and why it’s a great option if you’re deciding where to stay in Cartagena with kids.
Booking Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias on points
When we booked our stay, Movich Hotel Cartagena was still part of the Hyatt–Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) partnership. This meant we could use our World of Hyatt points transferred from Chase — and we scored an amazing deal: just 12,000 Hyatt points per room, per night. That’s a steal for a boutique rooftop hotel in Cartagena with a cash rate of around $400 per night!

As of May 2024, Movich Hotel Cartagena is no longer bookable through Hyatt. It has since joined the Hilton portfolio, and you can now book it for 65,000 Hilton Honors points per night for the Standard Room. Considering the high cash price, that’s still an excellent redemption value—especially if you’re sitting on a stash of Hilton points or have Amex Membership Rewards points you can transfer to Hilton (usually at a 1:2 ratio).

You can earn Hilton Honors points by opening a Hilton credit cards, such as the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card (which automatically gives you Complimentary Hilton Honors™ Gold Status) or the Hilton Honors Aspire Card (which automatically gives you Complimentary Hilton Honors™ Diamond Status), or by transferring points from Amex Membership Rewards.

Check-in at Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias
From the moment we arrived at the Movich Hotel, we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality. The hotel’s grand entrance welcomed us with open arms, lush greenery, and elegant architectural details.

We were welcomed with a cold drink (much appreciated in Cartagena’s heat!) and given a few local tips that ended up being super helpful during our stay.

The Rooms at Movich Hotel Cartagena
For our stay, as a family of 4, we booked 2 Superior rooms, as each room sleeps 2. The style is modern with natural textures, stone, and wood, yet still feels local. The beds were comfy, and the AC worked well (a must in Cartagena’s heat). While the rooms are rather small, they had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

The bathroom featured a spacious walk-in shower and came stocked with complimentary toiletries, soft towels.

Dining at Movich Hotel Cartagena
Breakfast at Movich Hotel Cartagena
Breakfast at Movich Cartegena was a daily highlight—served in the cozy indoor restaurant just off the lobby. The spread included tropical fruits, arepas, eggs made to order, fresh pastries, and strong Colombian coffee. It was a relaxing way to start the morning before heading out to explore Cartagena’s colorful streets.

Dinner at Movich Hotel Cartagena
We also tried the rooftop restaurant for dinner, the views up there are unbeatable, and the menu had a nice mix of local and international dishes—perfect if you want to unwind with a cocktail after a long day of sightseeing.

Amenities at Movich Hotel Cartagena
While Movich is a boutique hotel, it doesn’t skimp on amenities. The rooftop infinity pool is the standout—it’s not huge, but it’s the perfect size for an afternoon dip with a view. There’s also a small fitness room, free Wi-Fi, and a spa on-site if you’re looking to unwind.

Let’s be honest—the rooftop is what sold us on Movich, and it did not disappoint. The infinity pool overlooks the historic rooftops and the bay beyond, and there’s no better place to relax after a day of sightseeing.

Traveling with kids? Ours loved swimming in the pool after hot afternoons of walking. There’s no shallow end, so we kept a close eye on our youngest.

Location: Steps from Cartagena’s Best Attractions
Movich Cartagena sits right in the heart of the Walled City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We walked everywhere—from Plaza de Bolívar to Café del Mar for sunset, and of course, the endless charming streets filled with colonial architecture and fruit vendors. If you’re traveling with kids, being able to pop back into the hotel for a quick break (or bathroom stop!) is a huge plus.

Bottom Line
For families wanting a central Cartagena hotel with a rooftop pool and epic views, Movich hits the mark. We loved being able to walk everywhere, cool off on the rooftop, and enjoy a bit of luxury with a laid-back vibe. Bonus: we got a great redemption value using points for part of our stay.
