Chase World of Hyatt credit card review

Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card is great for people who stay at Hyatt hotels often. We consider it to be a keeper card as it offers a decent earning rate in general categories such as dining, and airfare (and a great rate at Hyatt hotels), coupled with a modest annual fee that can be easily outweighed by an annual Free Night Award Certificate that can be redeemed at Category 1-4 Hyatt hotels worldwide (read our post to learn more about Hyatt hotel categories), and other benefits.

This card is a must-have for everyone who wants to earn or keep the Explorist status (requires 30 qualifying nights) or the Globalist status (requires 60 qualifying nights) with Hyatt since it offers a kickstart of 5 nights annually. You can earn two more nights with every $5,000 spent towards the status.

Sign-up bonus

The current sign-up bonus on the card is 35,000 Hyatt Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening, plus you can earn 2 points per dollar spent in the first six months from account opening in categories that generally earn 1 point per dollar (up to another 30,000 Hyatt Points).

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Earning rate

Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card at a glance

🏨 – 4x points at Hyatt hotels
🍔 – 2x points for dining out
✈️ – 2x points for flights (purchased directly from the airline)
💪 – 2x for gym memberships
🚕 – 2x for local transit and parking
🛒 – 1x for everything else

The card offers an impressive earning rate on dollars spent at Hyatt hotels and resorts (4 points per dollar). We value Hyatt Points at a minimum of 2 cents per each, so earning 4 points per dollar at a Hyatt property (spent on room and other charges, including dining!) results in at least 8% cashback equivalent.

You can also earn 2 points per dollar at cafes and restaurants or when you pay with your World of Hyatt credit card for airline tickets, gym membership, or local transit (including parking), and 1 point per dollar on all other spendings. The points will be deposited into your World of Hyatt account within 1-2 days after your statement closing date.

Benefits

  • You will receive one Free Night Award Certificate annually that can be redeemed at Category 1-4 Hyatt hotels worldwide (roughly two months after paying your annual fee). This benefit alone can pay for the $95 annual fee since it’s virtually impossible to find a room at a Category 1-4 Hyatt hotel that costs less than $200 per night nowadays. Here are some examples of how we redeemed our Category 1-4 Free Night Award Certificates:
  • You will receive another Free Night Award Certificate once you spend $15,000 on your card in a calendar year.
  • You will maintain complimentary Discoverist status with Hyatt, which has some valuable benefits such as 2 pm late checkout and a bottle of water daily, as long as you keep the card open.
  • You will receive five qualifying nights credit towards your next tier status every year at the beginning of January.
  • You will receive two qualifying nights credit towards your next tier status for every $5,000 you spend on the card.
  • There are no foreign transaction fees.
  • You can earn 5,000 Hyatt points by referring a friend, up to a maximum of 25,000 points per calendar year. You can start referring your friends by clicking this link, which will lead you to a “catch-all” page by Chase.

Application

Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card is subject to Chase 5/24 rule, meaning that if you open five or more credit cards within the past 24 months with any credit card issuer, Chase will automatically not approve your application. The number of open accounts may also include authorized users on someone else’s account, so make sure to check your credit report before applying for a Chase card to avoid an automatic rejection.
