What comes to your mind when you think about visiting Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks? It should be mountains, canyons, waterfalls, and of course, a forest with magnificent ancient giants, the largest living things on Earth, sequoias.

Representing two of the nine National Parks in California, these parks spread across thousands of acres of land (including 808,000 acres of designated wilderness). Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks are very popular tourist destinations and are visited by people from all over the world.

Visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park with kids

This summer we visited Lassen Volcanic National Park, California. We had to postpone our visit several times due to unforeseen circumstances such as the closure for reconstruction of the most popular area and trail (Bumpass Hell), Covid restrictions, and of course, the Dixie Fire in the park in 2021.

Finally, the stars aligned, and we could explore this National Park with its ancient volcanos, fumaroles, meadows, and crystal clear lakes. Lassen Volcanic National Park is one of the oldest National Parks in the U.S. and spreads through over 100,000 acres of land.

This summer we spent a few weeks in Turkey exploring Istanbul, relaxing on the Mediterranean coast, and even taking a road trip through the country. We have already posted about our three-day road trip through Turkey (read about our Road Trip from Antalya to Istanbul here) where we shared how we planned our itinerary to include unique places to visit along the way.

We spent two weeks in beautiful Turkey this summer, or as you are supposed to say, Türkiye. We had a very busy schedule and tried to accomplish a lot during our stay. The very first part of our Turkish journey began in Istanbul, one of the largest and oldest cities in the world, where we spent a few days.

Greek settlers founded Istanbul in the 7th century B.C. The city served as an imperial capital for almost 1600 years: during the Roman, Latin, late Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires. This city, rich in history and culture, attracts millions of tourists every year. If you are only visiting Istanbul for a short period – this itinerary is about must-see and must-try things in the city.

As you know, this summer, we went on our big Turkish trip that combined various activities—from exploring one of the oldest and biggest cities in the world (Istanbul) to relaxing on the Mediterranean coast at an all-inclusive resort. We also took a road trip back to Istanbul through the country to witness ancient city ruins, walk around small towns, eat good food, and fully experience Turkish culture as it is. Recently we have realized that we get equally excited about visiting a new place as much as about trying new restaurants and food! I guess this is how we started our “foodie” journey. 😅 What can we say, we just love to eat!

When traveling we love to try local food, if possible, to explore a different cultural atmosphere fully. How do we find a good restaurant? Mostly on Yelp (no matter how trivial it may sound)🤷🏻‍♀️ or sometimes on TripAdvisor. We came to the conclusion that the rating doesn’t usually lie and if something is 2.5 stars, well it’s probably going to end up being 2.5 stars.

Washington D.C. in 3 days with kids

Our spring break in Washington, D.C., was a success. The Nation’s capital is beautiful this time of the year; although we wished it would have been a little warmer, we still enjoyed our stay very much.

We were actually surprised that this city offers a lot of kid-friendly activities. When we told Sophia we were going to Washington, D.C., the first thing she asked was if we were going to see the White House. For 7-8-year-olds, it’s an adventure to visit the places they talked about in school and see the historical monuments themselves.

A day trip to the Exuma Cays, the Bahamas

A few years ago, we went on our Caribbean vacation to the Bahamas. Although it had been quite some time ago, and we hadn’t even started our “onpoints” journey at that time (it was only “withkids”), some of our friends (a post for you, Alex) were asking for a Bahamian story. We decided to feature the most memorable part of our adventure (and one of the most memorable vacations we have ever taken!) — a day trip to the Exuma Cays!

A winter weekend getaway: top activities in Murphys, California

Last Christmas break, we had planned a short getaway to the winter wonderland (as Sophia says). We had booked three nights at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa And Casino and were very excited about our trip.

The weather in the Sierras is very unpredictable in winter, it can be dry and sunny, or it can snow for days and wreak havoc on the traffic. December 2021 turned out to be the snowiest December on record for the Sierra Nevada, breaking all the previous records. Central Sierra Snow Lab recorded 214 inches (544 cm) of snow that month!

Traveling as a family, especially with the little ones, is always challenging; you want it to be as comfortable as possible, and you want to be ready for any imaginable scenario.

You constantly adapt and develop your own traveling habits. Like this one — pack in your carry-on 1 set of underwear/socks/T-shirts for each person. You never know if your luggage will arrive on time, and you obviously don’t want to end up with no change of clothes for the next day or two.
