Last October, our family spent a few days in Lisbon, Portugal, and stayed at one of the Hyatt properties. The Hyatt Regency Lisbon is an excellent choice for families seeking to blend luxury with practicality while exploring the historic charm of Portugal’s capital. Situated along the banks of the Tagus River, this Category 4 Hyatt property provides a tranquil retreat while keeping you within easy reach of Lisbon’s vibrant city life.
Located in the Belém district of Lisbon, Hyatt Regency Lisbon offers 204 modern, spacious, and fully-furnished rooms and suites, some with a balcony overlooking the breathtaking Tagus River. Let’s dive into a detailed hotel review.
Booking Hyatt Regency Lisbon
Our stay at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon was made possible through points redeemed from our credit card rewards. Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio, making this redemption particularly valuable. As a Category 4 hotel, it costs just 15,000 points per night for a standard room, making it an excellent choice for those looking to stretch their points without compromising on luxury. Thus, instead of paying $1,565 for 4 nights, we used 60,000 points for a Standard room.
Additionally, as a Category 4 Hyatt Hotel, you can redeem your Free Night Award at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon! Learn more about the Hyatt Free Night Award below.
Please note that you need to have one of the premium Chase cards first (Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Preferred) to be able to transfer points to Hyatt.
Chase Sapphire Preferred
You can earn a signup bonus of 60,000 Ultimate Rewards Points when you signup for the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card and spend $4,000 in the first three months of card membership. This bonus alone is worth at least $1,200 in travel rewards when transferred to travel partners such as Hyatt!

You can check the points price on Hyatt’s website by searching for a specific hotel under the Points Calendar. Please note that the Points Calendar indicates the price in points, not availability!
Now, to check the availability at the Hyatt hotels, we always use the website called MaxMyPoint.com, where you can check the specific dates in a calendar view.
We also utilized a Suite Upgrade Award (SUA) to secure a Standard Suite (it would have been $2,000 for 4 nights), and upon arrival, we were further upgraded to a Premium Corner Suite (which to be honest, is the first time that happened to us). This upgrade added an extra layer of sophistication to our stay, with its generous space, beautiful design, and enhanced amenities.
💡Good to know
It’s important to note that while you typically do not have to pay additional fees when redeeming your points for a hotel stay, there is a mandatory city tax in Lisbon. This tax must be paid in person at the hotel upon checkout. At the Hyatt Regency Lisbon, we had to pay a city tax of €4 per adult, per day, for a maximum of 7 nights. Children aged 12 and under are exempt from this charge.
Check-in at Hyatt Regency Lisbon
The check-in process was smooth and welcoming. The staff ensured we felt at home, offering tips for navigating Lisbon and making the most of our stay.
💡Good to know
Hyatt Regency Lisbon is located within a 20-minute ride from the airport. And if there is one thing that stands out in Portugal’s transportation, it is very cheap taxi prices. Getting around cities like Lisbon and Porto was a breeze with apps like Uber and Bolt. Using a promo code (like Bolt’s HELLOLISBON), we snagged a ride from the airport to our hotel for just €3.80!
Corner Premium Suite at Hyatt Regency Lisbon
The Corner Premium Suite (1,065 sq ft, maximum occupancy: 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children, up to 12 years old) truly exemplifies Hyatt’s commitment to comfort and style. From the separate living area to the luxurious bedroom, every detail was meticulously designed to enhance relaxation. The modern décor, large windows overlooking the river and 25 de Abril Bridge, and high-end amenities like plush bedding and a soaking tub made it hard to leave the suite.
For families, the extra space was invaluable. Our children enjoyed having their own area to unwind, while the suite’s dining table and kitchenette (we also had a washer) gave us the flexibility to enjoy in-room snacks and light meals. The thoughtful layout ensured everyone had room to relax after a day of sightseeing.
Where did the girls sleep? The pullout sofa in the living room was already spacious enough, but the staff suggested we use the extra crib they had for our 4-year-old. It turned out to be a great decision, as it was the largest crib I have ever seen in a hotel! So, the girls had their own separate beds in a very spacious living area.
Having two bathrooms in a hotel room for a family of four is definitely an extra bonus!
Dining at Hyatt Regency Lisbon
Breakfast at Viseversa, Hyatt Regency Lisbon
Breakfast at Viseversa, Hyatt Regency Lisbon, was a daily highlight, and thanks to our Hyatt Globalist benefits, it was complimentary for the 4 of us. The buffet featured an array of fresh pastries, seasonal fruits, hot dishes, and made to order eggs. The on-site restaurant also offered a curated selection of Portuguese cuisine, allowing us to savor local flavors without leaving the property.
ICON Rooftop & Bar Experience
Now, one evening, we decided to check out the rooftop at Hyatt Regency Lisbon — a highlight of the property. The view was breathtaking indeed, however, note that they had an interesting requirement: a mandatory €25 minimum spend per person (thankfully, only for adults). Whether you ordered below or above this amount, the charge is applied. Drinks were around €18 each, and while the menu included some snacks, many options were unavailable during our visit. After some negotiation, we managed to get tortilla chips for the kids, which they happily enjoyed.
It’s also important to note that the rooftop becomes an adults-only space after 8 PM. I can’t say this policy wasn’t ideal for us as a family with young children. It limited our ability to enjoy the rooftop during the evening hours together.
Amenities at Hyatt Regency Lisbon and Location
The Hyatt Regency Lisbon features various amenities such as a spa, fitness center, and access to outdoor walking paths along the river. However, the hotel does not offer a dedicated kids’ club.
The property is situated a short tram or Uber ride from Lisbon’s iconic neighborhoods like Belém and Chiado. The proximity to the river allowed for scenic morning walks and easy access to landmarks such as the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery.
Area Attractions
Hyatt Regency Lisbon is located in the Belém district, just a 10-15 minute drive from downtown. Overlooking the Tagus River, the hotel is near key attractions like Belém Tower, Pastéis de Belém and Jerónimos Monastery.
Here is the list of some kid-friendly activities in Lisbon that our family enjoyed during our stay:

The generous suite upgrade, convenient location, and thoughtful amenities made this stay a memorable one for our family.
