Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review: a family stay in Portugal’s capital

Planning a family trip to Portugal and searching for a luxurious yet practical place to stay? Welcome to the Hyatt Regency Lisbon review you’ve been looking for. Last October, our family spent a few days exploring the vibrant city of Lisbon and chose to stay at this modern Hyatt property, and it turned out to be an excellent base for both relaxing and sightseeing.

Located in the riverside Belém district, Hyatt Regency Lisbon is a Category 4 World of Hyatt hotel offering 204 spacious, contemporary rooms and suites, some with private balconies and sweeping views of the Tagus River. Whether you’re traveling with kids or on a couples’ getaway, the hotel’s upscale amenities, walkable location, and family-friendly vibe make it a top contender for your Lisbon itinerary.

In this post, we’re diving into all the details, from booking on points to room features, dining, and what makes this property a standout choice for travelers. Let’s get into the Hyatt Regency Lisbon review!

How to book Hyatt Regency Lisbon with points

Our stay at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon was made possible through points redeemed from our credit card rewards. Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio, making this redemption particularly valuable.

As a Category 4 hotel, it costs just 15,000 points per night for a standard room, making it an excellent choice for those looking to stretch their points without compromising on luxury. Thus, instead of paying $1,565 for 4 nights, we used 60,000 points for a Standard room.

Additionally, as a Category 4 Hyatt Hotel, you can redeem your Free Night Award at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon! Learn more about the Hyatt Free Night Award below.

Please note that you need to have one of the premium Chase cards (Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Preferred) to be able to transfer points to Hyatt.

Now, to check the availability at the Hyatt hotels, we always use the website called MaxMyPoint.com, where you can check the specific dates in a calendar view.

We also utilized a Suite Upgrade Award (SUA) to secure a Standard Suite (it would have been $2,000 for 4 nights), and upon arrival, we were further upgraded to a Premium Corner Suite (which to be honest, is the first time that happened to us). This upgrade added an extra layer of sophistication to our stay, with its generous space, beautiful design, and enhanced amenities.

Check-in at Hyatt Regency Lisbon

The check-in process was smooth and welcoming. The staff ensured we felt at home, offering tips for navigating Lisbon and making the most of our stay.

Corner Premium Suite at Hyatt Regency Lisbon

The Corner Premium Suite (1,065 sq ft, maximum occupancy: 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children, up to 12 years old) truly exemplifies Hyatt’s commitment to comfort and style. From the separate living area to the luxurious bedroom, every detail was meticulously designed to enhance relaxation.

The modern décor, large windows overlooking the river and 25 de Abril Bridge, and high-end amenities like plush bedding and a soaking tub made it hard to leave the suite.

For families, the extra space was invaluable. Our children enjoyed having their own area to unwind, while the suite’s dining table and kitchenette (we also had a washer) gave us the flexibility to enjoy in-room snacks and light meals. The thoughtful layout ensured everyone had room to relax after a day of sightseeing.

Where did the girls sleep? The pullout sofa in the living room was already spacious enough, but the staff suggested we use the extra crib they had for our 4-year-old. It turned out to be a great decision, as it was the largest crib I have ever seen in a hotel! So, the girls had their own separate beds in a very spacious living area.

Having two bathrooms in a hotel room for a family of four is definitely an extra bonus!

Dining options at Hyatt Regency Lisbon

Breakfast at Viseversa, Hyatt Regency Lisbon

Breakfast at Viseversa, Hyatt Regency Lisbon, was a daily highlight, and thanks to our Hyatt Globalist benefits, it was complimentary for the 4 of us. The buffet featured an array of fresh pastries, seasonal fruits, hot dishes, and made to order eggs. The on-site restaurant also offered a curated selection of Portuguese cuisine, allowing us to savor local flavors without leaving the property.

ICON Rooftop & Bar Experience

Now, one evening, we decided to check out the rooftop at Hyatt Regency Lisbon — a highlight of the property. The view was breathtaking indeed, however, note that they had an interesting requirement: a mandatory €25 minimum spend per person (thankfully, only for adults).

Whether you ordered below or above this amount, the charge is applied. Drinks were around €18 each, and while the menu included some snacks, many options were unavailable during our visit. After some negotiation, we managed to get tortilla chips for the kids, which they happily enjoyed.

It’s also important to note that the rooftop becomes an adults-only space after 8 PM. I can’t say this policy wasn’t ideal for us as a family with young children. It limited our ability to enjoy the rooftop during the evening hours together.

Amenities at Hyatt Regency Lisbon and Location

The Hyatt Regency Lisbon features various amenities such as a spa, fitness center, and access to outdoor walking paths along the river. However, the hotel does not offer a dedicated kids’ club.

The property is situated a short tram or Uber ride from Lisbon’s iconic neighborhoods like Belém and Chiado. The proximity to the river allowed for scenic morning walks and easy access to landmarks such as the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery.

Area attractions around Hyatt Regency Lisbon

Hyatt Regency Lisbon is located in the Belém district, just a 10-15 minute drive from downtown. Overlooking the Tagus River, the hotel is near key attractions like Belém Tower, Pastéis de Belém and Jerónimos Monastery.

Here is the list of some kid-friendly activities in Lisbon that our family enjoyed during our stay:

1️⃣ Belém Tower – A waterfront fortress where history meets adventure. Perfect for little explorers!
2️⃣ Praça do Comércio – Stroll this grand square, let the kids run, and enjoy riverside views.
3️⃣ Museu Arqueológico do Carmo – Marvel at the stunning ruins of this Gothic monastery.
4️⃣ Castelo de São Jorge – Climb the castle walls for sweeping city views. A family favorite!
5️⃣ Day trip to Sintra – Palaces, fairy-tale gardens, and magic await just outside Lisbon.
6️⃣ Alfama – Wander Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood, with its cobblestone streets and hidden gems.
7️⃣ The National Pantheon – A masterpiece with incredible views from the rooftop terrace.
8️⃣ Miradouro das Portas do Sol – A panoramic viewpoint that’s perfect for family photos!
9️⃣ Local food – Treat your taste buds with kid-friendly pastéis de nata, fresh seafood, and hearty soups.
🔟 Ride a Tram – Take a scenic tram to Belém, where the journey is as fun as the destination!

Bottom line

The Hyatt Regency Lisbon combines the elegance and reliable service of a Regency property with the warmth and charm of Portuguese hospitality. For families traveling on points, it offers an ideal mix of value, comfort, and location, making it one of the best hotel options in Lisbon for World of Hyatt members.

From the generous suite upgrade to its riverside setting in Belém, this property delivered a memorable experience with plenty of thoughtful touches. If you’re planning a trip to Portugal’s capital, The Hyatt Regency Lisbon review is clear: this is a stay worth booking, especially when you can redeem points and stretch your travel budget even further.
