Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards allow World of Hyatt members to upgrade their stay to a Standard Suite for up to 7 nights when booking eligible rates. Unlike other hotels that only offer upgrades at check-in, Hyatt offers confirmed upgrades through its Suite Upgrade Awards. So you can plan your upgrade in advance, giving yourself peace of mind.
In this post, we are going to explore what Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards are and how you can earn and redeem them. Whether you’re a frequent traveler or planning your first trip, this guide will help you make the most of your stay at Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.
What is Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award?
Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards are a way for World of Hyatt members to enhance their hotel experience. These awards provide a confirmed upgrade to a Standard Suite for stays of up to 7 nights. So it would make sense to redeem your Suite Upgrade Award on a longer stay rather than 2-3 nights. Hyatt’s Suite Upgrade Awards do not have capacity restrictions, allowing guests to plan their stay and enjoy a higher level of comfort months in advance.
The ability to confirm a Suite Upgrade makes World of Hyatt unique, as it is the only program to offer this type of upgrade to its members.
How to earn Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award?
Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards can be earned as part of the Milestone Rewards program. World of Hyatt members can earn the following Suite Upgrade Awards:
- One suite upgrade award upon earning 40 elite nights or 65,000 base points in a calendar year
- Two Suite Upgrade Awards upon earning 50 elite nights or 80,000 base points in a calendar year
- Two additional Suite Upgrade Awards upon earning 60 elite nights or 100,000 base points in a calendar year
- An additional one Suite Upgrade Award for passing 70 elite nights, 80 elite nights, 90 elite nights, or 100 elite nights.
💡 Good to Know
World of Hyatt Lifetime Globalist members receive four additional Suite Upgrade Awards per year.
At each milestone, members will be presented with a choice between one Suite Upgrade Award or 10,000 bonus points.
How to apply a Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award?
Unfortunately, there’s no direct way to apply a Suite Upgrade Award. To do so, you’ll need to contact Hyatt customer support using one of the following options:
- Reach out to your Hyatt concierge
- Phone up World of Hyatt customer service
- Contact @HyattConcierge on Twitter or Facebook
Keep in mind that you must first book and pay for a minimum of a standard room at the Standard Rate, whether using cash and/or points, to be eligible for an upgrade using Suite Upgrade Award.
Restrictions on redeeming Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards
You can redeem your Suite Upgrade Awards for any eligible paid rate or eligible points redemption.
However, it’s important to note that there are some restrictions on applying your Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards.
- Suite Upgrade Awards cannot be used for stays booked with Free Night Award Certificates, including Category 1-4 and Category 1-7 certificates. You can read more about earning and redeeming Free Night Award Certificates here.
- Guest of honor bookings aren’t eligible for suite upgrade awards.
- Remember that you have to check out of the hotel before your Suite Upgrade Award expires.
- Some Hyatt hotels are not participating in Suite Upgrade Awards. So check the terms and conditions of the specific hotel you are interested in. The list includes Vacation Ownership Properties, Vivid, Secrets, Dreams, Breathless, Zoëtry, Alua, Sunscape, or other Legacy AMR Collection hotels.
Can you gift Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards to someone else?
New in 2024, Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards can be gifted to someone else right from your World of Hyatt account online or using the Hyatt mobile app. To gift a Suite Upgrade Award, sign into your World of Hyatt account, and navigate to the “Awards” tab. From there, select the award that you want to gift, click the “…” button, and finally click “Gift Your Award”.
Now, you simply need to enter the recipient’s World of Hyatt membership number and their last name.
When your recipient gets the Guest of Honor award, they have the flexibility to redeem it as desired.
However, there is one limitation – a Suite Upgrade Award cannot be combined with a Guest of Honor award. So they need to choose whether to use a Guest of Honor award or a Suite Upgrade Award, as only one can be applied.
Which suites are eligible for upgrades using Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award?
To determine what a Standard Suite is at a specific hotel, you can either check the hotel’s website for room categories and look for the description that mentions “Standard Suite,” or you can contact Hyatt customer service.
The latter option is necessary if the hotel does not list the information on its website. A representative from Hyatt can provide the information and help you confirm the definition of a standard suite for your chosen hotel.
In our experience, it’s helpful to redeem your Suite Upgrade Award way in advance while the “Standard Suite” is still available. Additionally, keep checking to see if it becomes open for booking closer to your stay, even if it wasn’t available when you first booked. We once discovered that the hotel had opened up Standard Suite availability two weeks before our stay, even though it had been unavailable for months after our initial booking.
Be aware of expiration dates
It’s important to keep in mind that your Suite Upgrade Award has an expiration date. Specifically, these awards are valid for the year in which they were earned, as well as an additional 14 months. That means if you earned your Suite Upgrade Award in March 2023, you’ll be able to use it for a suite upgrade on eligible stays through February 2025. Don’t let your awards go to waste by missing the expiration date!
